The M4 was closed eastbound near Heathrow Airport following a crash but lanes have since reopened.

TheM4 was closed this evening eastbound near London Heathrow Airport following a multi-vehicle crash. The motorway was currently shut between J4 (London Heathrow Airport) and J3 (Hayes) while pictures of the area showed heavy traffic.
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade and National Highways traffic officers were at the scene of the crash which saw one car overturn and rest on its roof.
There was also a seprate incident in Wales which caused major delays on the M4.

All lanes now clear
All lanes between Junction 4 (Heathrow) and Junction 3 (Hayes) have now been cleared and reopened. No more significant delays are expected.

Delays increase to 60 minutes as another lane opens
Two of the four lanes of the M4 eastbound between Heathrow Airport and Hayes have now reopened. However, National Highways East has said that delays are now 60 minutes, up from the previously reported 45 minutes. The five miles of congestion reaches back to Staines-upon-Thames.

Drivers experience 45 minute delays
National Highways has said that drivers are experiencing 45-minute delays due to the collision. There is up to five miles of ciongestion, they have reported.

Police tell drivers to avoid the area
Gwent Police have told people to avoid the area of the M4 J29 junction in Wales due to congestion. In a post on X, they said: "We're currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the M4 Eastbound Junction 24 Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey."

Inrix's latest update on the injcident reads: "M4 Eastbound entry slip road closed, long delays due to multi-vehicle accident at J24 A449 (Coldra).
"Congestion to J25 (Caerleon). The opposite side is also congested due to the onlookers back to J23A (Magor Services).
"The entry slip road from the A449 underneath the motorway onto the Eastbound M4 is closed.
"All traffic was held on the motorway itself just after 16:30 until just prior to 16:50."
